How to Change Your Spotify Username

This one surprises people. Your Spotify username, the one tied to your login, cannot be changed. It was set when you created the account, and if you signed up with an email it may be a string of letters and numbers you never chose. What you can change is your display name, which is what friends and followers actually see.

On your phone:

1. Open Spotify and go to the Home tab.
2. Tap the Settings icon, then tap your profile at the top, or go to View Profile and choose Edit.
3. Tap your current name to edit it.
4. Enter your new display name and save.

On desktop:

1. Click your profile name in the top right, then Profile.
2. Click your name or the edit option on your profile.
3. Enter a new display name and save.

Your display name can be changed as often as you like, and several people can share the same display name since it is not a unique handle.

The underlying username is a permanent identifier for your account, which is why Spotify does not allow edits to it. If you signed up through Facebook or an email, that is why it may look random. The display name is the flexible, public facing name, so that is where you express yourself.
